What is the difference between a counsellor, psychologist, and psychiatrist?
In British Columbia
A Registered Clinical Counsellor is someone with at minimum a master’s degree and is registered with a recognized regulatory body such as the B.C. Counselling Association and the Canadian Counselling Association.
A Psychologist is someone with doctoral training PhD who can also provide a diagnosis.
A Psychiatrist has a degree in medicine followed up by specialized training. They can provide a diagnosis and medication.
